Overview

What is a Patent?

A patent is a statutory right granted for an invention that is new, involves an inventive step, and is capable of industrial application. Under the Patents Act, 1970, the patentee gets exclusive rights to prevent others from making, using, selling, or importing the invention in India. A patent is valid for 20 years from the date of filing. The invention must not be disclosed before filing—we advise on confidentiality and timing. We draft specifications, file applications, and handle prosecution including responses to First Examination Reports (FER) and objections.
